In the quiet corners of my healing journey, the garden emerged as a sanctuary—a place where the earth's embrace offered solace and renewal. Before the Spice Origins era, before the crafting of organic seasonings, my hands found purpose in the soil.
As the garden flourished, it bestowed upon me an unexpected gift—an abundance of chilies. Traditionally not a fervent chili enthusiast, I found myself captivated by the diverse flavors they offered. It wasn't just about intense spiciness; it was about unlocking a spectrum of tastes. Over the years, I began to appreciate and savour the intricate nuances of different chili varieties and what they had to offer than heat.
Amidst this newfound appreciation, I fused these chilies with an old family recipe, a heritage handed down just a few years ago. This traditional recipe, a blend of organic lime juice and Himalayan salt and a few seasonal herbs and spices. This combined with taking the extra time to let the salt infuse and marinate, we then dehydrate 4 times longer than the industry standard which resulted in a sublime chili salt. Premium in every sense, it quickly became a favourite among friends, sparking an unexpected demand. Thus, Spice Origins was born.
The demand for my premium salts extended beyond the confines of my immediate circle. Local butchers embraced our offerings, and soon, the Sweet n Smokey Cayenne and the Tongue Tingler (a higher heat habanero salt) became staples in the community.
As the success with Cayennes and Habaneros unfolded, we ventured into milder chili varieties. The base of our seasonings was evolving, but the scale was still a future consideration. Instead, we decided to explore flavors by creating a range of Smoked Finishing Salts. By blending chillis, herbs, and native ingredients, we birthed an award-winning salt line.
However, the realization hit—we were at the mercy of the seasons in Southeast Queensland. The growing demand began to outpace our ability to supply our own ingredients. Before fully diving into the smoked finishing salts line, we had to strategize the sourcing of the rest of our ingredients.
Stay tuned for the next chapters, where Spice Origins evolves from a chili-infused journey to a full-fledged exploration of flavours and sourcing excellence.
